AMA Recap GreatDrop with IDENA

Hello, GreatDrop community

On 13 November, at 12:00 PM UTC (19:00 WIB), we just successfully hosted our 10th AMA’s with IDENA, the first proof-of-person blockchain where every node belongs to a certain individual and has equal voting power.

With our guest from the IDENA team:

  • Andrew, IDENA Founder

Many of you might have participated or many of not, So here we are up with the AMA transcript for those who missed the AMA session.

Introduction Questions Asked By GreatDrop Team

I am Andrew, one of the IDENA founders.
I see there are many bounty hunters and crypto believers here. This is why Idena is the right blockchain project for you. The main idea of Idena is to enable democratic mining. IDENA allows anyone to join the network and mine easily. No money for a stake or special equipment needed, you just need a laptop with the Internet. Prove that you are not a bot and get up to $160 monthly rewards for the validation of your humanity, inviting your friends and mining.

IDENA is one of the most decentralized blockchains. There are 4700+ miners in the network already. The network has grown to this size from 0 during a year. We anticipate the aggressive growth of the network size during the next year. Currently, early miners enjoy high mining rewards. The bigger the network the less mining rewards per each validator, but at the same time the higher the network valuation and the higher the Idena coin price (IDNA).

How many of you here are mining Bitcoin or Ethereum or any other cryptocurrencies? PoW/PoS blockchains tend to have concentrated mining where the rich miners become richer and the smaller miners leave. These blockchains are based on the following principle: 1cpu=1vote or 1coin=1vote. In contrast, Idena is based on the 1person=1vote principle. IDENA is the first Proof-of-Person blockchain in history. IDENA enables equal access to mining for all people regardless of their wealth.

IDENA is a fully open-source and public blockchain. With respect to the TPS, I have to mention that Idena is based on the most decentralized network of people’s nodes.
Since there are no large stakeholders in the network, IDENA nodes can be divided into interconnected shards without sacrificing security. In the future, each network segment will be able to mine its own chain of blocks, thus increasing TPS. At the moment, the network is not divided into segments. The TPS of one segment is 200 transactions per second.

We are currently working on two major components:

  • Sharding phase 1, which will scale the validation ceremony by enabling participants to pass their validation in small segments (shards), but running one single blockchain at a time.
  • Oracles voting, any validated person in the network will be able to perform the function of an Oracle and receive rewards for this.

Questions Asked on Twitter For IDENA Team

To become a validator, you need to prove that you are a unique human. No investment is required. Any validated person will be able to be an oracle.

In order to become a validator, you need to download the IDENA app, receive an invitation to join the network, and participate in the validation ceremony. The next ceremony in 2 days, on Sunday. You can get an invitation from me or any validated network participant:

All participants must be online at 13:30 UTC and solve 6 tasks in less than 2 minutes. No worries, they are hard for bots but easy for humans. You must have a good internet connection to pass validation successfully.

See detailed instructions here:

If you miss the validation ceremony you can only join the next validation ceremony in more than 2 weeks. The larger the network the less frequent the validation ceremonies

In order to be verified in the network, all network participants must be online at the same time, worldwide. Each participant must complete 6 tests (FLIPS) in less than 2 minutes.

In 2 minutes one person can try to validate 2 accounts but it is almost impossible to validate 3 or more on a regular basis.

The validation status is not forever. Each validation ceremony must be attended in order to maintain your status for the next epoch.

In addition, each participant must create at least 3 correct tests (FLIPs) for the next epoch so that other randomly selected participants could solve them. If the flip is incomprehensible or contains obscene content, the author may lose validation rewards.

A flip is a sort of a CAPTCHA that helps to determine whether a user is human. In contrast to a CAPTCHA, which stands for “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart” and is usually generated by an automated service, a flip should be created by a human. And unlike a usual CAPTCHA, which is based on object recognition, solving a flip requires a semantic interpretation of the relationship between objects.

Each flip contains two stories in pictures. One of them (left or right) is a sequence of pictures that are created by a human as a meaningful story. The other is created by the same author as illogical. Stories are “read” from top to bottom. Solving a flip is choosing the story that seems logical. If both stories seem meaningful or meaningless, the task is still to choose the one which seems more logical than the other and thus would rather be chosen by other people.

A flip is not an IQ test but a test for common sense. There are no predefined correct answers: The correct answer will be the one chosen by a majority of people.

IDENA Flip Example

Rewards are what make IDENA especially attractive for users.
In Idena the network participants receive the following rewards:

  • Validation reward — just for proving regularly that you are human.
  • Flip reward — a reward for creating good flip puzzles to challenge other participants in the upcoming validation session
  • Invitation reward — when the friends you have invited are validated as humans

You can check the rewards our participants received during the last validation ceremony here:

Validated members receive rewards when your invitee is validated. You can receive rewards for 3 epochs in a row.

Invites limit the growth of the network and prevent an endless number of bots from participating in the validation ceremony and being validated by randomly guessing the answers to tests (FLIPS).

With the growth of the network, an increasing number of invites are available, so invites are not an obstacle to joining the network. The IDENA team has a limited number of invites — you can contact us if necessary.

Among other things, everyone who issued an invite receives a reward for the successful validation of the invitee. This stimulates the growth of the network.

Each member of the network can be randomly selected as an Oracle to certify any data. In order to certify the data, you need to deposit IDNA and provide the corresponding data to the smart contract. According to the voting results, the oracles who provided the same data receive rewards and the oracles who provided erroneous data lose their deposit.

Questions asked by our GreatDrop community members during live Session to IDENA Team

Flips are distributed randomly in 5 minutes before the validation ceremony starts. Randomness is guaranteed to be a random seed generated by the network during the blocks mining.

More on how flips are created:

Who specifies the right answer for a flip? Does the author publish the right answer?

How are flips distributed for the validation session? Are flips individual?

The captcha test starts synchronously at the same time worldwide. Answers must be submitted within an aggressive timeframe. An attack requires extensive coordination of a high number of unique workers.
In addition, since the validation time frame is relatively small (1–2 minutes), the workers might be interested in validating their own identities instead of selling their time during the validation time.
The rewards will be higher than those you get when you are hired by someone.

Failed IDENA accounts might be either terminated (for newbies) or suspended (for accounts successfully validated more than 3 times in a row). Suspended accounts can participate in the upcoming validation ceremony without invitation.

More on Identity statuses and flow:

Currently, without sharding the theoretical limit is 10K+ nodes depending on the participants’ hardware and Internet connection.

The transaction fee is calculated automatically by the protocol. IDENA enables mining for anyone thus paying fees is not an obstacle for people to make transactions. Validation ceremony transactions are free. See more details:
